Spring Fling

Key Elements:

  1. Creative directed and produced a promotional marketing campaign

  2. Curated a DJ line up in collaboration with an LA music collective

  3. Sponsored Bar, vegan cookie vendor, pressed juices

  4. Activation with community organization, Tea Party 4 Black Girls

Background

After successfully working on one-off fundraising events and the farewell party, Black Image Center hired Red Eye to produce their summer Artist Residency, California Coast in Color. The residency brought together a group of 11 photographers with a love and connection to the outdoors, for 6 weeks of programming, field trips, panels, and conversation. Funded in partnership with Justice Outside, Red Eye managed the entire program budget of $40,000. For each of the 6 weeks, we staffed the program, ensuring meals, snacks and refreshments were present, securing venues where needed, and securing gifting for our resident artists. At the end of the program, residents came together to present their work at REI in Marina del Rey. After the opening event and panels, the artist’s work stayed on display for a month in the stores.

The Solution

We teamed up with our friends at the Plant Chica to host Spring Fling at their new space in Leimert Park, an area with a heavy foot traffic and a popular hot spot for our audience. We activated a vegan cookie vendor, fresh pressed juice company, had a sponsored bar, and hired incredible LA DJs to score the afternoon.

The Impact

In response to the marketing and promotional materials from this event, we were able to grow our audience and invite about 60 people into the Plant Chica’s space to hang out, dance, and connect ahead of our summer Picture Day event.
